Dear Colleagues,
This summer at IU, we're inviting you to try something new—something that could transform the way you teach, research, and work. Through the Generative AI Tool Pilot, faculty across disciplines will experiment with three powerful AI platforms—ChatGPT, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot 365—to explore how these tools can support the unique demands of academic life.
This initiative is part of IU's broader commitment to innovation and inclusivity, themes that matter deeply in our current moment. While AI brings tremendous potential, we know it can't be meaningfully integrated without your insight. We're asking participating faculty to complete at least eight practical challenges—each designed to reflect authentic teaching, research, or service tasks—and to share what worked, what didn't, and where AI can truly make a difference.
You'll get:
- A full year of access to all three tools
- Pre-written prompts you can use or tailor to your needs
- Optional drop-in trainings and collaborative forums to share insights
- A flexible format that lets you engage on your own schedule
Your input will help shape how IU supports the use of generative AI in faculty life moving forward, ensuring we build with purpose, equity, and real-world utility in mind.
I hope you'll join us in testing what's possible. The 10-week pilot program (featured on Next.IU.edu) is limited to 100 instructors, and the priority deadline is June 6th. Be sure to complete the form now if you're interested in participating!
Warmly,
Anne Leftwich
